Quad Cinema 34 West 13th Street New York, NY 10011“Artistic Freedom in Recovery”, Donna Chavous of A&E’s TV show INTERVENTION hosts a panel of New York artists to discuss the creative process in recovery from alcohol and drug addiction and to dispel the myth that creativity flows better while under the influence of addictive substances.Graphic artist, Melinda Bush; Dancer Robert La Fosse, Actor/Director David Drake and Painter/Poet-Artist Christine Rodriguez join this REEL Recovery Film Festival event to share their own experiences healing their imagination and pursuing their artistic journeys in recovery.Donna Chavous is a Board Registered Addiction Specialist and a former alcoholic and crystal meth addict. She has been involved in her own personal recovery for eighteen years and professionally for eleven. She graduated from the University of Southern California and began work in Hollywood at Creative Artists Agency, which represents many of the top names in entertainment in the world. Shortly after joining the company she became the first African American to be promoted to agent at the firm. She worked her way to the top of the industry, representing, Sharon Stone, Stevie Wonder and Jamie Foxx, among other great talents. Seven and a half years later she spiraled into addiction and depression. Donna abandoned her career and traveled the road toward destruction. A successful Intervention began her recovery process and she got sober. She resumed her career in the entertainment field as an executive with Russell Simmons and then with her own company.
